France - Destroyed village of
Fleury - 1 |
|
|
 |
The
Destroyed village of Fleury-devant-Douaumont is left as a
memorial of the tough fighting that took place in the Verdun
area during World War I. The village was captured and recaptured
by the Germans and French 16 times during the war. At the end of
the war the village had been completely destroyed and the land
was made uninhabitable to such an extent that a decision was
made not to rebuild it.
