The
Colosseum or Roman Coliseum
is among the very most well-known landmarks and tourist sites in
Italy. This amphitheatre was started by the emperor
Vespasian in 70 AD and completed in 80 AD by the emperor
Titus. The
Colosseum was used for gladiatorial contests and public
spectacles and could seat approx.
50,000 spectators.

The Colosseum in Rome as it looks
inside. Originally the whole centre area was covered with wooden
planks (like a small section is right now). This was where the
gladiators fought. The seats has also long been removed.
