Slovakia - Battle of the Dukla

Throughout the Dukla Pass there are a lot of
memorials for the great World War II tank battle that took place
in this area - the Battle of the Dukla
Pass. The battle took place in September and October 1944. The
memorials include vehicles at are displayed a long the road as well
as huge viewing tower that overlooks that old battlefield and a
cemetery.

A status of
General Ludvik Svoboda displayed in the
centre of Svidnik - just at the edge of the
Dukla
Pass. General Ludvik
Svoboda was commander of
the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps during the Battle
of the Dukla Pass - and went on to be the president of
Czechoslovakia.

The entrance to the
Dukla Memorial which is located at that main road thru the Dukla
Pass - almost at the Slovakia/Poland boarder.
The nearby cemetery is the resting place of 563
soldiers of 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps.
